Learn Spanish Accent Rules

If you think Spanish accent rules and stress is a challenging concept, take a look at this short article and we are sure it will help you understand how to learn Spanish accents. Memorizing a simple set of rules will help you remember Spanish pronunciation.

A. Make sure you stress the marked vowel anytime a Spanish word has an accent mark.

B. The stress generally lands on the last syllable in the event a word does not include an accented mark…UNLESS

–> there is an n, s, or vowel on the last letter of the word

–> in cases where there is no n, s, or vowel found on the last letter of the word, the stress now ends up on the second to last syllable

C.  Usually the majority of Spanish words end in an n, s, or a vowel, so this makes it easy to remember that the stress will end up on the next to last syllable. Unlike English where you normally have to look up the pronunciation of a given word, Spanish has this simple rule that makes Spanish language pronunciation easy to remember.

Accent marks in Spanish are not meant to be difficult to learn…in fact, there are only a few Spanish accent codes that you will really need to focus on. For now, just remember the I with an accent in Spanish and a with accent Spanish, and finally Spanish o with accent. Now that you know the basic Spanish accent rules, hopefully you can remember them and apply it to your vocabulary Spanish learning.
